South Platte River Clean-Up 2016

Kayaks and rafts staged near Ruby Hill Park before taking off down river to collect trash during the annual Platte River Clean-Up.

For the past several years, over 200 rafters, kayakers, cyclists and pedestrians have come together and successfully removed over two tons of garbage from Denver’s South Platte River corridor. The event has received local and regional attention as the best river stewardship event in the Metro area. On April 23, Colorado Whitewater, in partnership with Down River Equipment, and Confluence Kayaks hosted the 11th annual South Platte River Clean-up, once again collecting trash along the river and surrounding areas, including Ruby Hill Park.

Volunteers at the event included people who raft and kayak the river, as well as Ruby Hill-Godsman neighborhood locals. An article on 9news.com mentioned that after starting at Ruby Hill Park, the volunteers in watercraft floated for about three hours down to Fishback Landing Park, collecting trash along the way.
