June Social Club at the Food Forest

  • Sanderson Gulch Food Forest 2047 West Gunnison Place Denver, Colorado, 80223 United States (map)

Our June social will be held at the new Food Forest at Sanderson Gulch next Tuesday, June 16th from 5:30-7:30 pm. Get to know your neighbors and chat in a low pressure, no agenda, fun environment at June’s social.

Celebrate the start of summer by getting outside, connecting with neighbors, and exploring one of our community's newest shared spaces. We'll have refreshments, kids' activities, lawn games, and plenty of opportunities to relax, wander, and learn about the Food Forest.

This is primarily a social gathering, not a formal work day, but the Food Forest could use a little extra love. If you'd like to grab a drink, chat with a friend, and help pull a few invasive weeds while you're there, we'd certainly welcome the help. Every little bit makes a difference in keeping this community space healthy and thriving.

Activities at the Food Forest

We'll have several family-friendly activities throughout the evening, including:

  • Painting rocks for a new community tic-tac-toe installation that will become a permanent feature of the Food Forest

  • Building artistic pollinator hotels using natural materials and hand drills. Together we'll create both habitat and artwork that will be installed throughout the Food Forest to support native bees and other beneficial insects.

  • Cornhole and other casual outdoor games

  • Other kids' activities including bubbles, sidewalk chalk, coloring pages, and mini-pot painting

Explore What's Growing

As you explore, you'll find:

  • A growing collection of perennial food-producing plants

  • A new pollinator garden featuring native Colorado plants alongside carefully selected non-native species that support pollinators, funded through a neighborhood grant

  • Beautiful educational signage featuring watercolor botanical illustrations and information about the pollinator and medicinal benefits of many plants in the garden

  • Student-created artwork from the second graders at Godsman Elementary School, who learned about native pollinators and plants before painting stepping stones that now bring color and creativity to the Food Forest

The Food Forest is more than a garden. It's a place for community gathering, learning, wildlife habitat, and food sovereignty. It demonstrates how shared green spaces can strengthen neighborhoods, support pollinators and wildlife, increase access to food, and create opportunities for people to connect with one another and the natural world.

The food forest is located at 2047 W. Gunnison Pl Denver, CO 80223 along Gunnison. Park on the street, and you’ll see us welcoming folks into the area. We’ll have some shade tents, chairs and blankets, but feel free to bring some along.
